With all manner of percussion oddities to hit, shake, rattle and bang, a Rhythmic Riot is as enjoyable as it is rewarding. No matter who you are, a Rhythmic Riot offers something valuable for you to take away.

WHAT IS A RHYTHMIC RIOT?

A Rhythmic Riot is more commonly known as a drum circle. A drum circle is simply a gathering of people coming together to create and share a unique experience. Our job is to provide equipment, guidance and inspiration. Everything else is done by you, the Rioters. We are not here to 'teach' you how to drum, just to find the rhythm that's already there.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

The Riot begins with the simplest of beats that even my Grandma could play! It then evolves naturally into an incredible sound. Our facilitators guide the group to perform in harmony throughout. There is also a whole host of percussion games and activities included, which we use to enrich your experience further. No pressure on you, just BANG THEM DRUMS! We do the rest.

A Riot Performance Day is the complete performance experience. It is a chance for students to work together and to express themselves creatively using music and visual performance.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

The students are first arranged into groups. Each group is designated a certain amout of time with the Rhythmic Riot facilitators. During this time, the facilitator help the group create and rehearse its very own unique performance piece, using the instruments and other performance tools provided. The students are encouraged to consider the various aspects of the visual, sound and correographical elements of their performance. After dinner, all of the groups congregate and the show begins!

WHO IS IT FOR?

This program is specifically aimed at summer school and summer camp providers and can involve hundreds of students.

An opportunity to learn traditional African rhythms, principally on the famous African Djembe drum but also with a variety of other instruments. Most of your time is spent playing and we are careful to ensure that you receive a healthy balance of guided tuition with opportunities for free musical expression. There is also a Rhythmic Riot African drumming pack issued to all participants, which aims to guide your continued learning into the future.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

As with all Rhythmic Riot programs, we use a very hands-on approach. Once we have covered the basics of playing position and how to strike the drum, we can move on to learning some traditional African Rhythms. We break off into smaller groups for this, each learning the different parts of an African song. When the group reunites, we bring together the parts to form a percussive polyrhythmic symphony. After lunch, we move on to soloing and building compositions. The day ends with a feedback session and tips on continued future learning. You will also receive a Rhythmic Riot African drumming pack, which you may take away with you to use for reference.

WHO IS IT FOR?

The African drum school program is for complete beginners to intermediate hand drummers who have an interest in playing African rhythms. This program is available for both private group and individual sign up (email us via our contact page with your location for details of up and coming events near you).

Using 2 Yamaha DTX electronic drum kits and our own sound system, we enable our wannabe rock stars to take that one step closer to fame and fortune!

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Our no-nonsense, quick set-up and guided play approach will have students performing within minutes! We start with a quick introduction to the basics of producing simple beats. We then select a suitable song according to the participants tastes, and demonstrate the beat in action. Students may even bring their own MP3s. Then comes the time for the participants to perform.

As the participants progress, we introduce slightly trickier beats and throw in a few drum fills to spice up the mix. For the more advanced drummers, we bring extra flavour to their grooves by revealing a few essential rudiments and other sneakier tricks of the trade.

Whatever your level, our Rock Release programme takes you to the next step.

WHO IS IT FOR?

This program makes a great supplement to our Rhythmic Riot program. Particularly as part of our day long workshops. It is designed for a maximum of 8 'Rockers' per hour and is suitable for all ages and abilities from complete beginner upwards.
